About this policy
This policy describes the public website at smokefreenews.com. Smoke Free News publishes news, blogs and explainers about smoking, nicotine and public health. It does not cover the privacy practices of websites we link to.
Information involved when you use the site
- Visits and analytics: The site uses Google Analytics 4. It may process pages visited, interactions, approximate location, browser and device information, and a cookie based client identifier to help us understand how the website is used.
- Technical requests: Our hosting provider may process ordinary request and security information, such as an IP address, requested page, time, browser information and error logs, to deliver and protect the website.
- Contact form: The current Contact page prepares a message in your browser for you to copy. It does not send the message to Smoke Free News. If you later share that draft through another channel, that channel's handling of your information will also apply.
- Newsletter: Newsletter registration is not currently available. The website does not accept newsletter subscriptions at this time.
How the information is used
Technical request information helps deliver, maintain and secure the site. Analytics helps us understand which pages are useful and identify problems with the site. The current public Contact page does not create a message record on our server.
Storage periods and controls for analytics and hosting information depend on the configured services. We will update this policy when new public features, such as a working newsletter or contact submission service, are introduced.
Third-party services and links
Google Analytics may set cookies and process usage information. You can read Google's Privacy Policy. Pages with embedded videos use YouTube's privacy-enhanced player (youtube-nocookie.com); loading or playing a video may still connect your browser to Google or YouTube. The website also loads Bootstrap assets from the jsDelivr content delivery network.
Articles may link to other websites. Their privacy practices are separate from ours.
Your choices
You can manage or block cookies in your browser settings. You can also use Google's Analytics opt-out add-on where supported. Blocking cookies or third-party resources may change how some site features work.
